This year, the 1st day of Chinese lunar year is on 14th Feb. It is so romantic to see peach blossoms everywhere, especially on valentines' day. I was celebrating valentines' day with my boyfriend on 10th Feb so we can beat the rush of valentines. After lunch, we went to Time square (Hong Kong) and took some pictures.
When we take pictures of flowers, we must consider where the light comes from, and the source of the light. In this picture, I used the light in the shopping mall (i.e. artificial) to form the out-focused light circles. The background should be warm enough to create the romantic atmosphere, but it must be soft.
In contrast to the upper one, this picture demonstrates how to use "low light" effect to take peach blossom pictures. I would like to express the sadness in romance, therefore i used "low light" effect to depict the shadow of romance.
As you might notice, these two pictures were taken at the same place, with same amount of light and the same flowers. The only difference is the exposure length. Upper one: F4(aperture), 1/80 seconds; Lower one: F4(aperture), 1/400 seconds
F4 is pretty necessary when you take pictures of flowers. With larger aperture (the number is smaller, such as F4 and F2.8), you can create background blur, so the subject would not be distracted by the background.
By using different exposure lengths, you can form different emotions in the picture. Enjoy!
